Carlton United Clydesdales in Yarram

Yarram Club Hotel CUB visit

We were thrilled when the call came through from Carlton United Breweries (CuB), saying yes, out of all the regional towns in Victoria, the Clydesdales are coming to Yarram on 4 April 2015. And what a glorious day it was, seeing the CuB Clydesdales leading the Yarram Easter Parade; and then standing in  the front of the historic Yarram Club Hotel for all to admire.  Absolutely magnificent, these beautiful horses are loved by all and were a total and utter treat to have in town, and an experience many will hold dear for years to come.

Glen and his team (including Cassie / Cascade the mascot Dalmation) who work with the Clydesdales told us before leaving that they really enjoyed their stay in Yarram, despite having to forgo their annual leave to make it in time for the parade.  We were just thrilled – along with everyone else – to have them all here and to play our part in contributing towards the roaring success for the 2015 Easter Parade; a day and weekend to remember, celebrate and cherish.

Take a look at more photos from the day in the gallery.

100 days at the Yarram Club Hotel

13 March 2015 marks our 100th day as publicans and owners of the Yarram Club Hotel!

WOW – with everyone in town so welcoming, generous and encouraging, it really has been a fantastic experience!  Apart from learning about how to best run a business like this – we also had a pretty long list of things we wanted to achieve in the first 100 days and so far, are feeling pretty chuffed with our progress.

Here are some examples (in no particular order) of what we’ve been up to:

  • removing 9 tonnes of waste from the beer garden in order to start creating the Palms Courtyard as a unique and distinct area
  • painting the Palms Courtyard outdoor bar and perimeter fences
  • painting the entrance hall, passageway and toilets (male and female)
  • replacing all the female toilets
  • cleaning, preparing and painting the soon to open Cellar Door
  • purchasing and then running our own brilliantly branded courtesy bus
  • encouraging our head chef to complete her apprenticeship (underway)
  • participating in a number of community events and initiatives
  • meeting and greeting both locals and visitors to the area
  • purchasing new towels and linen for all the rooms upstairs
  • cleaning a number of large kitchen materials to better assist the chefs
  • installing and learning a new Vectron point of sale system
  • holding a number of successful theme nights in the Glasshouse Bistro
  • receiving positive feedback on a whole range of new dishes and desserts created by our adventurous chefs, trialled at special events such as the delicious slow-cooked meat pies (from Australia Day), the Creepy Crawly Critter Cupcakes (from Black Friday the 13th), the Red Velvet Cheesecake (a dessert favourite from Valentine’s Day), lamb souvlaki focaccia, the goats cheese bruschetta and chicken won ton soup (lunchtime hits), the cinnamon and honey pane-cotta (from Mother’s Day) the Thai beef salad, a number of poached salmon numbers and a full gamut of pasta varieties (such fun)

We respect that this hotel is an integral part of Yarram, the community, its people and region; we absolutely love being a part of the community and feel very privileged in our role as caretakers for this magnificent, historic hotel.

Tongans Sing like Angels in the Glasshouse Bistro

Tonight (29tYCH-Tongan-Grouph January 2015) we had the lovely Tongans (a group of tech school boys from the Tupou High School) sing for possibly the last time at the Yarram Club Hotel.

A gorgeous bunch of boys who’ve been staying with us for the last two months, they came to the area to pick tomatoes, make some money and learn something new outside of Tonga.  Since their arrival they have been adopted by local community church groups and people throughout Yarram; helping to make them feel welcome in a town that was initially very foreign.

These boys sing like angels – a Capella style – with their harmonies spine-chillingly beautiful. They did two sets this evening, to a completely packed out crowd of eager supporters and well-wishers. One set was in the Glasshouse Bistro and the other in the function room, so that all who were there, could appreciate and hear their magical tunes and melodies.

Thank you Yarram, for helping to support this initiative with open hearts – together we raised in excess of $1500 for the Tongans and their community. Certainly for us, our lives feel more enriched as a result of their stay here.
